A Musical Apology

I am hereby apologizing for not writing anything in so long. How am I doing that? With a song.

Y’all know I love rock music. I knew about Godsmack [a.n.- Sully Erna is the lead singer of the band Godsmack]. I loved the song I Stand Alone that is featured on the soundtrack of the movie The Scorpion King. In fact, that song is the reason I even mustered the will to watch the darn movie; and let’s face it, if you haven’t seen The Scorpion King, you do not deserve to live. (part two and part three were fun to watch, but not as fun as the original movie, even though it featured better actors). Anywho, here’s the vid for the soundtrack.

Lately, I’ve been sort of re-discovering Godsmack and Sully, and that is all thanks to a dear friend of mine. You can read her blog here: http://a-black-rose.blogspot.com/ she’s really amazing. Be kind, she’s not a native English speaker. P.S. – Viewer Discretion Advised.

She’s the epicness epicdom of epic epicness and she has a wicked taste in music that I am simply in awe of.

However, you already know that I try to keep the blah-blah to a minimum on this blog, and that is why I don’t write ‘classic’ reviews of songs/albums/artists/bands.

This is the only thing I will mention, not because it is the only thing worth mentioning, but because I could write a book on how awesome this band is.

The pyro effects in concerts are a pretty sweet touch. By that, I mean not everyone has the guts of including them in a show, mostly because of the high risks. The pyrotechnic effects add that something extra that make I Stand Alone one of the most awesome songs ever sung live.

Sully’s voice sounds even better live (how is that possible, right?!) than it does on a studio recording. Maybe I am a little biased on this- who cares?! I love a good band with good songs that sounds amah-zing! live.

I leave you with this amazing concert snippet, as I am off to watch The Avengers at the movie theatre with my best friend in the world. I hear it’s great, so expect a movie review soon, as well as a new playlist and if you’re lucky, maybe a movies-I’ve-seen-recently rating.

Cheers,

Lexxa~

Tyniepixels’ Lesley Keller, about how she got started.

I’ve been planning to write about my favorite photographers since this summer, so this is a story I’ve been dying to share with you all!

Who’s Lesley Keller, you say? She’s one of my favorite photographers!

She’s a 30-year-old New Yorker that works in Internet Marketing. Her passion is music, so she loves to help promote artists she likes, and tries to expose people to new musicians and bands. She even tried to teach herself to play the guitar.  She’s pretty good at teaching herself new things, and she’s a quick learner. She’s pretty shy, and it takes a while to get to know her. I haven’t gotten there yet, myself. But hopefully I will, someday. Her photographs are great, and I am sure that you will be enchanted by them as well, once you’ve taken a look at her work.

I asked her about how she first got into photography, so here is what she said.

It kind of started after I saw my favorite band at a music festival called Bamboozle. My favorite band is called MUTEMATH.

I was allowed into the festival with my less than average point and shoot camera, a Panasonic Lumix TZ3. Thankfully, it was hot and sunny, more than favorable conditions to get a worthwhile photo out of that crappy camera.

After I came home, excited and energized by their performance, I thanked and congratulated the band on their Facebook page by posting some photos of the show.

Hours later, I received an email from their tour manager, Jordan Mattison, that he and the guys loved the photos I took and wanted to post them on their official website.

I was completely elated – my all time favorite band loved what I did and thought it was worthy enough to represent them on their site. I immediately sent the photos to Jordan, and was so proud and happy when they were posted for everyone to see.

From that time on, I said to myself if MUTEMATH thought the photos I took with my crappy little point and shoot camera was good enough to post on their website, then perhaps I should give it a real shot. I had always loved photography, but I never really gave it a proper go, until then. They gave me the nudge that I desperately needed.

MUTEMATH @ Mercury Lounge - 8/25/11

I managed to scrape together some money for my first SLR camera, a Canon T1i… and some lenses to go along with it. Since then I’ve been learning as I go. A lot of trial and error mostly.

Right now, I work for free, and I still feel as if I’m enthusiast. However, in time I hope I get good enough to hopefully start charging for my services.

The link on their site is long gone but here are the photos that were posted: http://www.flickr.com/photos/39852160@N05/sets/72157623998932594/

If you like what you see, and want more awesomeness, give her a like on her FaceBook page!

Get Boyced!! -> A Weekend With Boyce Avenue, Part One: Seattle

I feel inspired, and this is why: Last week, Boyce Avenue kicked off their world tour (click here for tickets!!), and Melenie, from the Get Boyced blog attended both the show in Seattle, as well as the one in Vancouver. She wrote this review of the Seattle show that just melted my heart, and I want to share it with you. The pictures she took are amazing, and the way she writes inspires joy and happiness. Even if you are not a BA fan, I encourage you to read the article she wrote. It will make you giggle and give you all sorts of moronic smiles :)

A Weekend With Boyce Avenue, Part One: Seattle

I went to see Boyce Avenue live as they kicked off their 2011 US/Canada Fall Tour….first in Seattle, Washington at the Showbox, and then in Vancouver, B.C. at the Vogue Theater.  For both shows, I had a VIP Meet & Greet with the guys before the show through Artist Arena.  In Seattle, I got a special Meet & Greet with them after the show for doing promo/street teaming. Here’s my recap/review of the Seattle show.  My recap/review of the Vancouver show will be posted separately.

HAPPY B'DAY TJGG!!!

POSTED BY SUPERNAY ON joshgroban.yuku.com

thatjoshgrobanguy.com — make sure you visit!!

New TJGG 5-year Anniversary and CONTEST!

Today marks the fifth anniversary of ThatJoshGrobanGuy.com, and I wanted to take a moment just to thank everyone who has contributed to the site, kept it going, given support over these years. I’ve said it before and it’s absolutely true…there’s no way that one person could do this alone. TJGG is a labor of love, a collective effort of the hundreds of fans who have contributed to it by helping keep me posted about news, sending me media clips from around the world, or just keeping me going with messages of encouragement. I’m so thankful for ALL of you every day. To all of the amazing “team” who has been so gracious and supportive all these years…WBR, management, PR reps, GroBand members, mods, radio and media reps, and the Groban family…thank you, thank you, thank you…from all of us.
When I first came up with the idea to start TJGG, there was no such thing as YouTube, Myspace, Facebook, or Twitter (hard to believe!). Sharing videos online meant having a server to put them on, and most fans didn’t…so fans resorted to making and mailing CDs and DVDs all over the world to share them with other fans, or help introduce new fans to Josh’s music. There were already some incredible fans out there who shared media…Wilson, Yasuko, DarylO, Ellen, Manon, Anne-Laure, others…and without them, the earliest media would not exist. I’m so grateful that they had the early vision to begin saving these clips and sharing them before I’d ever even HEARD of Josh Groban. But TJGG was born out of the desire to give fans one inclusive place to go for any media clip that was ‘out there’, along with accurate information about Josh and his music. I had no idea what I was getting into! The first month, I had to quadruple the server bandwidth as I learned that Grobanites are–as someone had tried to warn me–”voracious” for their Josh media. Since then, the site has grown like wildfire, with over 300,000 visitors and millions of hits per year.

While it’s something I’m immensely proud of, I take no credit for the success of TJGG over these years…there would BE no “ThatJoshGrobanGuy” without the amazing talent of the person it was inspired by and created for. JOSH, it’s all you. TJGG stands as just further proof of how loved you are by your fans, how enduring your music is, how it inspires people. It’s your music that draws people in, and your remarkable spirit that keeps them there. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing us all on such an incredible journey with you. As I’ve told you before….”you keep doing your thing, I’ll keep doing mine.”

Now…In thanks and celebration of the anniversary, I’m happy to announce that TJGG is hosting another giveaway contest! In conjunction with Warner Music Entertainment and Noble PR Ltd, TJGG will give away one copy of “Josh Groban: Awake Live!” on Blu-ray disc. To enter, simply go the TJGG home page and click the link to enter your email address. Entries are open now, and the contest will run for one week, with a winner chosen at random on July 12th. See the contest page for full details.

About the disc: “Josh Groban’s first ever Blu-ray release, ‘Awake Live’, captures the Grammy Award-winning singer’s performance at Salt Lake City’s EnergySolutions Arena in front of a sold-out crowd of 15,000 fans. Whilst the majority of the set is composed of songs off the ‘Awake’ album, the concert also pays homage to Groban’s extensive back catalogue with classic tracks such as ‘Canto Alla Vita’ and ‘You Raise Me Up’. Bonus Material includes 2 featurettes, a behind-the-scenes documentary ‘The Making of Awake Live’ and ‘Behind the Orange Curtain’, a back stage pass to Josh before he takes the stage.” Check here for more information .
