(*how*) I got Boyced, BABY!

02 Sep

Today is 4 years since Boyce Avenue posted their very first video on YouTube. It was an acoustic cover by The Goo Goo Dolls – Before It’s Too Late.

In Honor of the amazing 3 brothers, Fabian, Daniel, and Alejandro, let’s take a peek at how they’ve been doing so far.

When you think about those numbers… The YouTube/Facebook phenomena everybody is talking about starts to be defined within the grasp of everyone’s understanding.

Since I posted this a few minutes ago on the BAST America fan page, and a couple of groups, filled with awesome people, I think it’s only fair I should post this cute little story on my blog, also. Yes, it’s time ;)

Well, I have been hesitant to talk about my period of transformation so far, because during that period I was spread so thin between work and school, and homework, and sleepless nights, that I remember very little details about a couple of the years in that period. I was going through a very rough patch -hence the music choices I made in that period- , and on some level, I still do not want to remember that period.

I honestly don’t remember when I got boyced…. I added Alejandro as a friend on Facebook because I thought he was cute LOL. I didn’t know about the band till later. I wasn’t such a Facebook junkie back then, so I wasn’t haunting people’s walls as frequently as I do now. I had a job as a forum moderator, so all the internet time I was spending was mainly focused on that…(plus, my Facebook got deleted in 09 because I had a fake name on my profile, so I had to re-register hehe xD) Haha. I know, I am a bad fan. I’m a rebel, LOL. I do remember I stumbled upon one of their cover videos from back in the day, from before they got signed. It’s all very fuzzy for me, because I didn’t really resonate with them at first. I was in that period in my life when I was listening to Heavy Metal bands a lot… BUT!! If I had to think about it… I think the first song(s) that really hit me were “shadow of the day’, and ‘Apologize’. When I finally logged in to Facebook again and figured out ‘that cute guy from Facebook I never got a chance to speak to’ was the lead singer of the band, I got curious HAHA.

So after about… a few months? maybe more… I was talking to a friend via Yahoo ! and she sent me a link to a song she really loved, and after I saw that one, in the related videos section I saw the title of a song I thought I knew, so I clicked on it. I sent the link to my friend and she was like OMG, I can’t believe that they’re not signed already!

so anywho. we were talking, we were listening, I went to their channel page and started YouTube stalking them. (heh!) My friend was about to write an e-mail to Brian Avnet from Avnet Management, telling him about the guys when she stumbled upon the vlog with the guys announcing they’ve finally signed with a record label… And ever since then, I keep getting boyced over and over again, with every new song that comes out, cover and original.

so I guess I could say that the very first day I got boyced, I had already boyced someone. Then came a few friends, my mom, my dad, a couple of classmates, people I met on the web, I shared their music with everyone, on message boards, on Facebook, on instant messengers, on my blog, every time I got the chance, and I still do. Some instantly fall in love with the guys, and some need some convincing… (cough, Krisz, cough) – but they all end up loving these amazing people.

5 words to describe Boyce Avenue

~ I honestly do not think 5 words would be enough. Ever. Boyce Avenue came into my life when I needed a break from the real world… A vacation from all the hardships and all the evil in the world. They reminded me why I used to love music, and they gave me back hope, and passion, and will to try. I would rather write a whole book about BA than limit myself to JUST 5 words. All in all, It is not fair to try to resume all the awesomeness in so little words. It’s like trying to put the oceans of the world into a single glass of water. :)

My favorite moment – even if I was not there, I think would be when Alejandro started beatboxing and chuckling on lovestoned in Belfast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sQdGrmjUAE , and also, when his mic malfunctioned during Broken Angel in TX and he just pushed it away and continued singing without one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwNC3De8-1E (fair warning – major fangirl screaming in the beginning/end)

Every moment is a favorite moment. Even when Alejandro pokes me on Facebook, he brings a smile to my face. Most of the time, it’s almost like he knows I need some cheering up, and he times it perfectly haha.

I hope some day I will get to see them live, and have a set of fave memories of my own experience, but until then, and even after that, I will treasure and cherish every moment as it would be the last, because if there’s one thing I learned from BA, is that every moment counts, and it doesn’t matter how long the moments last, but how good they are, and that we have to make the most of every second we spend with each other, and with ourselves, because one day it might end, and life is too short for regrets, maybe’s and what if’s…

My hope for the guys ~ is to never see them lose their passion for music, and for life. It’s what drives them, it’s what fuels their hearts and souls with so much love and light, and makes them the awesome, beautiful -inside and out- people that they have become. I hope that they will always know how to balance their private and public lives, and that they will always be happy with who they are, and what their lives have become.

Thank you everyone for allowing me to share this with you, and thank you for taking the time to read the thoughts of a small, insignificant person like me. :)

well, I could try and figure things out with the BASTA… But I think the ‘shows’ that were counted there were the stand-alone shows
in 2010, I think the event they attended was invitation-only. here’s a tweet from the guys, saying they will be back to do their own shows https://twitter.com/#!/BoyceAvenue/status/15844560538177537
which pretty much means full on concert , that they had, in 2011, July 9, at the L.A. Lights IndieFest… which, btw, contrary to all the advertising that was going on, was not streamed via the Internet. I remember I didn’t sleep all night because I wanted to see the guys perform, and after I saw on facebook that their performance ended (it was already noon for me), I just went to bed, and had happy dreams of me being there lol.

I knew it’s just an invitation and it is not exposed to the media, but be seen in terms of appearance the same, even they are more complete when it first came Indonesia :)
